Reaching the B2B Buying Committee: AI Search, SEO & Paid

Reaching the B2B Buying Committee: AI Search, SEO & Paid

To reach a whole buying committee at a priority account, give each role the channel it already trusts: AI search for the champion, SEO-ranked depth for the technical evaluator, paid media for the economic buyer. Then run all three from one account plan.

We ran that combination for Avassa, an edge-computing platform with a long, complex buying cycle: a keyword strategy for category and problem-driven searches, content structured for AI answers, and LinkedIn Ads rebuilt around key buying roles with remarketing layers. AI Overview visibility grew 2900% and organic conversions grew 89% year over year (Avassa case study, one client).

Quick answer: A buying committee is several people who each check different evidence. One channel reaches one of them. Map every role to the channel and the stage where it decides, then give one owner the account plan so organic and paid stop bidding against each other.

The buying committee doesn’t research the same way

A buying committee is the group of stakeholders who jointly evaluate and approve a B2B purchase. Forrester’s State of Business Buying, 2026 puts the average at 13 internal stakeholders and nine external participants, and 94% of buyers report using AI during the buying process.

Each seat is convinced by different evidence:

  • The champion is the internal advocate who has to sell you to peers. Social proof convinces them: case studies from companies like theirs.
  • The economic buyer holds the budget. ROI and risk convince them, usually late, usually fast.
  • The technical evaluator decides whether it will actually work. Implementation detail, integrations and comparisons convince them.

Procurement sits in the room too. Forrester’s 2026 press release has procurement as decision-makers in 53% of business buying cycles.

A priority account is a named company your team is actively working, as opposed to a broad top-of-funnel segment. AI search visibility is whether your brand shows up when someone at that account asks ChatGPT, Perplexity or Gemini about your category. It is separate from where you rank on Google.

Your SEO may still be reaching the account. It just reaches one seat.

Map channels to roles, not to funnel stage alone

Funnel stage tells you when someone is buying. Role tells you what they’ll believe. You need both, because the champion researches early, the technical evaluator digs in mid-cycle, and the economic buyer often shows up at the end.

Role What convinces them Lead channel When it matters Where we’ve run it
Champion Proof from similar companies, cited by a source they didn’t pick AI search: case studies and category pages cited in AI answers Early research, before vendors are contacted Case IQ: content rebuilt for AI Overviews citations
Technical evaluator Implementation detail, integrations, comparisons SEO: ranked problem-driven and how-it-works pages Mid-cycle evaluation Avassa: keyword strategy covering problem-driven searches
Economic buyer ROI, risk, a page that answers the business case Paid: LinkedIn remarketing to a page built for the decision Late, at approval ACBaltica: LinkedIn and Google Ads rebuilt with a service-page redesign

The channels hand off. The champion who found you in an AI answer forwards a link, and the technical evaluator lands on whatever ranks for the next question they type. If that page is thin, the citation is wasted.

Every role sees all three channels eventually. The lead channel is the one you fund and measure for that seat. Rampiq’s full service lineup splits the same way: AI search, SEO and LinkedIn pipeline work run as separate programs, reported against the same pipeline numbers.

Running AI search and paid media together on one target account

AI search finds the committee member before you know they exist. Paid media follows them once they’ve identified themselves. Run separately, each covers half of the account.

On a named account, the two connect in three steps:

  1. AI search surfaces you first. A champion asks an AI tool for options in your category. If your case studies and category pages are what the engine cites, you’re on the shortlist before any form fill. For Case IQ, 850+ keywords now rank inside AI Overviews after schema, LLM.txt and robots.txt fixes and GEO-ready content briefs (Case IQ case study).
  2. The visit becomes a signal. That champion lands on your site. Now the account has a known engaged contact, and the rest of the committee can be reached by company and job function on LinkedIn.
  3. Paid follows with proof. Remarketing shows the economic buyer and technical evaluator the evidence their role needs, not the same awareness ad the champion already saw. Thought Leader Ads, promoted posts from your founder’s or CEO’s own profile, fit here because they read like a post from a person.

The consistency matters more than the volume. If the AI answer says you integrate with SAP, the ad and the landing page have to say the same thing, in the same words.

This is the play our LinkedIn Ads for priority-account retargeting program runs on: warm audiences built from the contacts and CRM data you already have.

Coordinating organic and paid without duplicating spend

Organic and paid duplicate spend when both chase the same query for the same account. The fix is a simple ownership rule: each query and each role has one lead channel, and the other channel supports it.

A working sequence for one priority account:

  1. Audit what the committee already sees. Run the prompts each role would ask through ChatGPT, Perplexity and Gemini, and check what ranks for their search queries. Note where you’re cited, where a competitor is, and where nobody is.
  2. Give organic the problem queries. Problem-driven and how-it-works searches belong to SEO and AI search. Keep paid bids off queries your page already wins.
  3. Give paid the people, not the keywords. Use LinkedIn to reach named roles at the account before they search, and to remarket to the ones who already have.
  4. Point both at pages built for a role. A paid click from an economic buyer should land on a business-case page, and an evaluator’s click on implementation detail.
  5. Review monthly, by account. Shift budget toward the seat that’s missing.

When paid has a page worth landing on, it carries real pipeline. ACBaltica, an SAP-solutions provider, reports that PPC generated 40% of its total sales pipeline with a 23% conversion rate from PPC leads to sales-accepted leads, after a LinkedIn and Google Ads restructure paired with a service-page redesign (client’s Clutch review, self-reported).

One account plan, three channel owners

The overlap usually comes from org structure. SEO, content and paid sit with different owners, each reporting their own channel’s numbers. Nobody owns the account.

Give one person the account plan: the role map, the query ownership list, the pages per role. Channel owners work from it. We run that as a monthly review with the client’s in-house marketing team, with ChatGPT and Perplexity referral traffic tracked on a live dashboard.

Random visibility ≠ pipeline. Coverage of the committee is the number to manage.

If you want the SEO and content side of this run across your own priority accounts, start with Rampiq’s Organic Growth Engine program.

FAQ

How do we get in front of a whole B2B buying committee, not just one researcher?

Track coverage by role: for each priority account, note which roles have engaged with AI search, ranked pages or LinkedIn remarketing. An account where only the champion has engaged is one seat covered, however many leads it produced. Direct paid and content at the empty seats.

What’s different about reaching priority accounts vs. broad-funnel prospects?

You already know who you need to reach, so the job is coverage, not discovery. Broad-funnel work waits for the right person to show up. Priority-account work names the roles, checks which ones have engaged, and directs paid and content at the gaps.

Does AI search visibility matter if we’re already running paid ads to an account?

Yes. Ads reach people you’ve identified, while AI answers reach the ones researching before they ever touch your site. If a competitor is the source the AI cites, your ads arrive second. In our AI search programs, first meaningful signals typically show within 60 to 90 days.
